Heartland Credit Union is pleased to announce that members receive the highest combination of federal/private share savings deposit insurance available: $500,000 for regular savings accounts and $500,000 for Individual Retirement Accounts.
This level of coverage is attained through a combination of federal insurance by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) and private insurance by Excess Share Insurance Corporation (ESI), a subsidiary of American Share Insurance. Insurance coverage is FREE and covers both member share accounts and business share accounts.
Each members share accounts are insured to $250,000 and Individual Retirement account are insured to $250,000 by the National Credit Union Share Administration, an independent agency of the U.S. Government that regulates, charters and insures the nation's credit unions. NCUA Insurance applies to your credit union accounts, not investments. The NCUA protects share savings accounts, share draft (checking) accounts, share certificates and other types of share accounts. NCUA does NOT insure the money you invest in mutual funds, stocks, bonds, life insurance policies and annuities.
ESI provides members up to $250,000 in coverage, in addition to $250,000 standard share deposit insurance protection from the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA), providing a total of $500,000 in coverage for your regular savings accounts. Joint, retirement and certain other account relationships are insured separately and are subject to other federal guidelines, and also qualify for this supplemental coverage.
Because Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs) are insured separately, they are now protected up to $500,000 as well. By maintaining your non-retirement savings and your IRA at the credit union, you may now have a combined savings insurance of $1,000,000.
NCUA - The shares in your credit union are insured by the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund (NCUSIF), an arm of NCUA.
