Insurance Claim Checks Made Simple

If you’ve received an insurance claim check that includes both your name and Heartland Credit Union, we’re here to help guide you through the next steps. The process is straightforward, and our team is available to answer questions along the way.

Why is Heartland Credit Union Listed on My Insurance Check?

When Heartland Credit Union has a lien on your home or vehicle, we’re listed on your insurance policy as the lienholder. This is a standard practice that helps ensure insurance proceeds are used to repair or restore the property securing your loan. Insurance proceeds may need made payable to the repair facility or contractor.

If you have questions about why Heartland Credit Union is listed on your claim, call us at 217-726-8877.

Home Insurance Claims

If your home is financed through a mortgage or home equity loan with Heartland Credit Union, we’ll need the following before we can endorse your insurance check:

  • The insurance check payable to you and Heartland Credit Union
  • Your insurance adjuster’s report and/or claim documentation
  • A repair estimate from your contractor if the claim exceeds $40,000

Please bring these items to:

Heartland Credit Union

Using Insurance Proceeds to Pay Off Your Loan

If your insurance settlement is sufficient to pay off your loan, we’re happy to help you through that process.

Your first step is to contact Heartland Credit Union to request your exact loan payoff amount. Because interest accrues daily, payoff amounts can change, so it’s important to obtain an updated payoff before sending payment.

To request your payoff, call 217-726-8877 or email Support2@hcu.org.

After receiving your payoff amount, you may:

  • Transfer funds from your Heartland Credit Union account.
  • Mail your payment to:

Heartland Credit Union
Attn: Loan Operations
2213 West White Oaks Drive
Springfield, IL 62704

  • Visit our West White Oaks location to complete the payoff in person.

After Your Loan Has Been Paid Off

Once your mortgage or auto loan has been paid in full, contact your insurance company to remove Heartland Credit Union as the lienholder on your insurance policy. Updating your policy now can help simplify future insurance claims and may even reduce your insurance premium.

If you have questions about releasing a lien or updating your policy, call 217-726-8877.
